We #8 - Peace

We #8 - Peace

Peace is at the heart of the message of Jesus. Nonviolence is Jesus' own innovation, one that has implications for following him. In this final installment of "We," Kurt Willems unpacks a basic theology and practice for living out: Peace - We choose to love our enemies.

We #7 - Context

We #7 - Context

This week we looked at our value: Context - We choose to ask rooted questions to unleash creativity. Paul found himself in a particular context that caused the Judaean people to ask questions regarding the inclusion of "the nations" (gentiles). In this talk, Kurt Willems looks at the Antioch incident, a dinner that went completely wrong and is recorded in Galatians. He then shares about a new development within Pangea's context that may invite our community into a new season of ministry.

We #6 - Story

We #6 - Story

This week we looked at our core value: Story - We choose to live into the narrative of God. What is the church to do with God's story as told through the Scriptures? What about Tradition? How do these inform our worship and life? This sermon sought out to wrestle with these sorts of questions.

We #5 - Inclusive

We #5 - Inclusive

Today we looked at our value, Inclusive - We choose to invite everyone to the party. The church is a divided people. Political affiliations and theological options continue to fracture our witness. To be inclusive, is to invite differing people to Jesus' table. We belong together. Including theological traditionalists and progressives with regards to LGBTQ marriage. But -- what if both perspectives could break the same bread and drink the same wine: that would be a party. Perhaps it would be the sort of party Jesus would throw.

We #4 - Justice

We #4 - Justice

Today we covered our fourth value: Justice - We choose to right wrongs with those at the margins. The recording had issues, so Kurt gave a special podcast giving an overview (just under 20 mins) of what was covered in the sermon. What you miss out on is the conversation with some of our local justice practitioners.

We #3 - Community

We #3 - Community

This week we looked at our core value of "Community - We choose countercultural relationships guided by love." The body of Christ has often been missing some critical parts. The work of the church is for everyone, including women, which means that not connecting to a local community leaves something missing.

We #2 - Hope

We #2 - Hope

This week we looked at our second core value: Hope - We choose to imagine the world as it ought to be. We also introduced our "Offering Hope Initiative." This first round of our new initiative will involve 15% of all giving to Pangea will be gifted to Mennonite Central Committee to aid in their work with Syrian and Iraqi refugees and displaced persons. Also, during the message Kurt showed a video from "In a Nutshell" which can be found at the following link: https://youtu.be/RvOnXh3NN9w
